What is Non-ghosting and how to fix it in your pinball machine?

Did you ever think it burdensome to see the light keep glowing after it is turned off? The ghosting problems happen because not every pinball gaming machine could entirely erase the input current when the power is off. This extra voltage wasn’t a problem for incandescent bulbs, because it need a lot of voltage to start getting bright. However, LEDs can turn on and off instantly with less voltage.

Bulbs keep flickering(growing). Why?

The flickering(growing) happens to the general bulbs when the given voltage is not stable, up and down  —mostly due to the voltage instability. We recommend the voltage to be as stable at 6.3V as possible from the machine. However, our LED bulbs wouldn’t flicker or grows with power off if there is a slight change in voltage.

The bulb started dimming right after power off is due to the current keep inputted to the bulb. To solve this, the bulb with resistor built in is crucial. So that, we offer non-ghosting bulb.

The Non-ghosting Bulb

To avoid ghosting issue for LED bulbs, we designed our LED bulbs to build in “a resistor” which allow the bulbs to light up only when the voltage is over a certain threshold. Most of our customers don’t like problems of ghosting, so that has been why they trust our LED bulbs.

One of our non-ghosting bulbs is 4 SMD LED bendable with bayonet (BA9S) and T10 (#44 #47) bulbs. Here comes with

Balanset-1A: The Essential Tool for Rotor Balancing

In the realm of industrial maintenance and repair, the importance of precise rotor balancing cannot be overstated. The Balanset-1A is a sophisticated device designed specifically for this purpose, ensuring optimal performance and longevity of machinery. As part of the broader category of vibration analysis tools for industrial maintenance and repair procedures, the Balanset-1A stands out due to its dual-plane balancing capabilities.

Understanding Rotor Balancing

Rotor balancing can be performed in one or two planes, depending on the structural characteristics of the rotor being balanced. One-plane (“static”) balancing is typically employed for narrow, disc-shaped rotors that lack significant axial runout. Common examples include:

Narrow grinding wheels Belt drive pulleys Disc flywheels Gears Couplings Lathe chuck mandrels Narrow fans

On the other hand, two-plane (“dynamic”) balancing is essential for long (shaft-like) two-bearing rotors. Typical examples of this class include:

Rotors of electric motors and generators Rotors of compressors and pumps Impellers of turbines and fans Wide grinding wheels Spindles Shafts of milling machines with beaters The Importance of Proper Setup

For effective balancing, it is crucial that the mechanisms are in good technical condition and securely mounted in their designated places. If issues are detected, repairs must be conducted first. Bearings should be in working order, and the rotor must be free from contamination that may interfere with the balancing process.

Preparing for Balancing

Before conducting measurements, appropriate spots for installing vibration sensors and phase sensors must be selected. Conducting preliminary measurements in vibration meter mode is highly recommended.

If the sum of vibrations (V1s or V2s) closely matches the rotational component (V1o or V2o), it suggests that rotor imbalance is the primary cause of vibration. Conversely, if the sum of vibrations significantly exceeds the rotational component, a thorough inspection of the mechanism is warranted. This inspection should include bearing condition, foundation stability, and potential interference from other mechanisms.

Static Balance Check

Prior to utilizing the Balanset-1A, it is advisable to check for significant static imbalance. For rotors with a horizontal axis, manually rotating the rotor by 90 degrees can help identify static imbalance. If the rotor moves to a position of equilibrium, it indicates static imbalance. In this case, a balancing weight should be installed at the uppermost point of the rotor to maintain stability in any position.

This initial balancing step can significantly reduce vibration during the first starts of a highly unbalanced rotor, facilitating a more effective balancing process with the Balanset-1A.

Conclusion

The Balanset-1A is an invaluable asset in the toolkit of industrial maintenance professionals. By employing advanced vibration analysis tools for industrial maintenance and repair procedures, users can ensure their machinery operates smoothly and efficiently. Proper rotor balancing not only enhances performance but also extends the lifespan of critical components. Investing in the Balanset-1A means investing in reliability and efficiency in industrial operations.
